Down Mexico Way

Mexicans like to think like a long gone dictator/president Porfirio Diaz that its problem is that it is so far from God and so close to the United States. Well they're wrong their problem is that they live in Mexico. It is insane how much corruption these people are willing to put up with. In the state Oaxaca 31 employees of the newspaper Noticias have been locked up in their offices surrounded by "striking workers." The interesting thing is that none of the CROC (not making up the name I swear) union members outside of the Noticias offices are actually employed at the paper. CROC for the uninitiated is a union tied to the PRI party which ran Mexico lock stock and barrel until Vicente Fox beat them out in 2000. Unfortunately they still run Oaxaca and did not like what Noticias was saying about them so they sicced CROC on them. Conveniently the governor says that the law does not permit him to intervene in the confrontation at the newspaper offices and the pusillanious Fox cannot be expected to step in. Amnesty International has put out a statement condemning the "strike." The Washington Post has a long and good article on the failure that is Vicente Fox.
