Karen Hughes on Tour

Karen Hughes is kicked off a MidEast in Egypt meeting with students and local journalist. Ms. Hughes may technically be a lower level admin official right now but her mission and her proximity to W ensured that NYT, WaPost and WashTimes would all be there. Ms. Hughes discussed Iraq, Sept. 11, democracy, Hurricane Katrina and freedom of speech. NYT was least impressed noting that the somewhat friendly audience did not mentionIsraeli-Palestinian conflict during a Q & A session. This is interesting because the WashTimes does report the Israeli-Palestinian conflict being discussed. The WashTimes also mentions Amani Fikri, foreign editor of the Egyptian opposition newspaper Wafd, meeting with American reporters while Ms. Hughes spoke. What they fail to mention, but the WaPost does not, is that Ms. Fikri tried to attend the event but was asked to leave. I can't believe that I had to read three stinking articles to get a complete picture of the meeting although the WaPost's was pretty comprehensive.
